Finding the Right Club
If you live out in the country, your choice of gym may be rather limited, but for anyone in an urban or suburban area, there is likely to be quite a choice. The question then becomes how to go about finding the right club.
Finding the right club is important. With monthly memberships running from £25 up to £85 per month at the more luxurious establishments, you want to be sure that the place you join is one you will use regularly. Get it wrong and you will just not go. However, if you ask a few simple questions, finding the right club is easy.
Budget:
There is a wide range in prices from one gym to another. Be clear what you can afford before you start looking.
Home or work:
Unless you work close to home, you'll want to decide which works better for you – a place close to work or one close to home. This means you need to be clear when you will go. If you know you can work out at lunchtimes, or straight after work, then somewhere close to work will be ideal. However, if you prefer to exercise later in the evening, and on weekends, then a gym close to home will fit the bill better.
Health spa or gym:
Just as the cost varies from place to place, so do the facilities on offer. If your idea of a perfect workout is a quick warm-up on an exercise bike, then a couple of hours throwing free-weights around, then a hard core gym will be just the ticket. However, if a Pilates class, followed by a spell in the steam room and then a facial sounds like heaven, look for a full service spa.
Once you have a clear idea what you are looking for, your preferred location, and what you want to spend, it's time to start visiting.
