Avoiding Injuries
One of the main reasons that people are unable to stick with an exercise programme is that they get hurt. For someone just starting to work out, avoiding injuries is crucial.
While it is impossible to completely eliminate risk, there are several strategies you can follow that will help in avoiding injuries. Follow these steps and the chances are that you will be able to stick to your work out programme without any extensive downtime.
Six Steps To Avoiding Injuries:
Always warm up and cool down.Research shows that warming up and cooling down is crucial in helping prevent muscle and ligament damage. Start slowly, gradually building up to peak intensity, then ease off gently at the end.
Use Good Technique.
Visit any gym and you will see people performing exercises, particularly free-weights, in a manner likely to cause damage to themselves. Take the time to work with a personal trainer and learn good technique – it will speed up your progress and keep you healthy.
No Pain no Gain?
No Way! Pain is bad! Exercising is about pushing to an appropriate level in order to progress. Pain is not part of that equation.
Don't Compete.Working out in a gym can seem pretty competitive, but it's a good way to get hurt. Stick to your programme and don't worry about what others around you are doing.
Rest. When you exercise, your body needs time to recover. As a general rule, take at least two days off per week, and don't perform the same exercise on consecutive days – muscles need 48 hours to recover between workouts.
Eat Right.Working out places extra demands on your body. In order to cope you need a healthy diet – that means lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and cut down on the junk food.
Follow these steps and you will be able to keep working for years to come.
